We all have games that were staples in our childhood. For some it was the Monopoly, others it was the NES. For the Millennials out there these 3 systems stick out the most.

In the wise words of Pusha T, these are the games we play.

Playstation 2

The PS2 ushered in another era of gaming and gave us classics like God of War, GTA San Andreas, Ratchet & Clank and more. Ever more innovative, Sony capitalized on the popularity of their name, and console by offering exclusive It signified a shift in graphics, gameplay and what to expect from Sony in terms of quality. They also flexed their tech abilities even further when they dropped the PS2 slim which functioned much like it’s clunkier older version, but with the new sleekness it allowed for easy transport — anybody play their PS2 at school? No? Just us, okay.

XBOX

The original Xbox was a gamer dream for many reasons. Most of those reasons are likely Halo-related given that this flagship title is heralded as one of the best first-person shooters of all time. But the true popularity of the Xbox stems from the technological feats that were accomplished by Microsoft.

To put it plainly, the XBOX crushed the market.

GAMECUBE

The GameCube gets so much love because of its revolutionary cube design and its game controller which still gets used by Switch players who got used to the ergonomics of it. Aside from the design and the mini-DVD like games that go with it, The Gamecube excelled because of titles like Super Smash Bros Melee. Conversely, it flailed because it only had titles like Mario, and ultimately presented itself as a kid-friendly console for families who weren’t quite on board with getting their kids an XBOX or Playstation

SUPER NINTENDO

One thing millennials love is nostalgia and the Super Nintendo fits the bill perfectly. It dropped in 1990 right when the oldest Millennials were 9 or 10 years old and it remains a staple in adulthood which Nintendo proved during the re-release that sold out in minutes. This system was so loved because some of Nintendo’s best games ever are on this console including a few Mario and Zelda ones too. And if all that isn’t enough to commend Nintendo on, we have to talk about how iconic the controller was — it’s still in use today; Annnd, who didn’t love blowing dust out of the cartridges to get them to work.
